Anorectal Disorder

Common Anorectal Disorders:

  • Hemorrhoids

Anorectal disorders are the diseases that affect the lower part of the rectum (the last segment of the large intestine) and the anal canal. These are the most commonly encountered disorders in the practice of emergency medicine. Most of these anorectal disorders can be diagnosed and treated in the emergency department. Once they are diagnosed and treated in the emergency department, they need appropriate follow-up to ensure adequacy of treatment, and further possible diagnostic procedures (e.g., endoscopy, and biopsy).

FISSURE

Anorectal Disorder Symptoms :
  • Severe burning and pain during and after passing stool.
  • Severe constipation.
  • Droup of blood or streak of fresh blood during defecation.
  • Sentinel piles (Tag of skin at the outer end of anus).
  • Itching
  • Bright red blood (pellet like)
  • Hard stool (pellet like)
Complication :
  • Anemia(Decrease in hemoglobin (HB) due to loss of blood.)
  • Severe constipation.
  • Pain
  • Infection
  • Fistula

FISTULA (Fistula-In-Ano)

Symptoms :

Persistent or recurrent oozing of pus or watery like liquid from a wound around the anus. It may be associated with itching. Some may notice passing gas and faecal matter through the wound. Generally pain is not a significant feature, unless the wound closes and develops into an abscess or tunnel gets severely infected.

It is a day care procedure performed under anesthesia in 30minutes post which the patient can be discharged. Laser energy is delivered by radial fiber directly in the sub mucosal hemorrhoidal nodes to shrink the nodes from inside. Moreover, laser energy is used to reduce the blood supply nourishing the abnormal growth. LASER surgery for fistula prevents the occurrence or recurrence of a prolapse.
